When God Whispers: Rest
I didn’t realize how tired how tired I was until God stopped me.
It wasn’t the kind of tired that a nap or a vacation could fix—it was soul-tired. I had been pushing hard, moving fast, and carrying more than I was ever meant to hold. Somewhere in the blur of doing things for God, I had stopped actually walking with Him.
More than ten years have passed since the season when God first brought me to my knees. Back then, I thought I had learned my lesson. I promised myself I wouldn’t slip back into old patterns. But if I’m honest, those habits creep back so easily. Pride tells me to keep going, independence tells me to push through, and fear tells me that slowing down will make me fall behind.
But then God whispered one simple word: Rest.
A Gentle Reminder
In the quiet, I heard Him remind me of a truth I already knew but had forgotten:
“Girl, am I not the One who hung the stars in the sky? Did I not count the hairs on your head? Do you actually think I don’t have the best plans laid out for you?”
It stopped me in my tracks. I realized I was living as though everything depended on me—on my energy, my planning, my strength. But God doesn’t ask us to prove our worth by running ourselves into the ground. He calls us to trust Him.
Rest isn’t laziness. It isn’t wasted time. It’s obedience.
When I choose to stop striving, to breathe deeply and to remember His promises, I’m declaring that I trust Him more than my own effort.
Rest Is Trust
Maybe you’re like me—you know God is good, but your calendar says otherwise. You feel like if you don’t keep up, everything will fall apart. But rest is an act of faith and obedience. It says:
• I believe God is in control.
• I believe His timing is better than mine.
• I believe His presence is more important than my productivity.
Jesus Himself said, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He doesn’t tell us to “do more” or “try harder.” He simply invites us to come.
A Word for You
If you find yourself running on empty, maybe God is whispering the same word to you that He whispered to me: Rest.
Rest doesn’t mean stepping away from every responsibility—it means stepping into His presence. It means letting Him carry what you’ve been carrying alone.
Take a breath today. Pause. Open your hands and let Him remind you that He knows every detail of your life, and His plans are good.
Ink It Out!
Ask yourself honestly: Where am I striving for God instead of resting with Him?
Write it down. Pray it out. Hand it back to Him. And then, let Him lead you at His pace.
